Pilates

Pilates emphasizes balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient and graceful movement. The core muscles are the deep internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. This is one of the ways Pilates helps people overcome back pain.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Pilates is particularly good for people with poor mobility and back pain.

Gentle Exercise

Gentle Exercise is a strength and flexibility class designed specifically for the over 50s and is suitable for all levels of fitness. The class involves simple movements, low impact aerobics and light hand weight.

As much a social event as an exercise class. Unwind with a free cuppa and a friendly chat at the end of the class.

High Intensity Circuits

Circuits targets aerobic fitness and muscular endurance at the same time. Participants go through a series of exercises often referred to as stations for either a set time or number or reps, with little or no rest between. Some circuits involve exercise equipment while others may use bodyweight exercises or a combination of both.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Beginners can skip stations if required.

Keep Fit

Keep fit is a high flash low impact exercise class that includes aerobic and anaerobic components. A fun and informal class that evolves from class to class to include different equipment such as hand weights, steps and weight bars. Tones up abs, gluts (bum) and upper body.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

Zumba

Zumba is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. While much of the music is Latin American inspired, classes also contain everything from jazz to African beats to country to hip-hop and pop.

Suitable for all ages and abilities. No prior dance experience required, just follow the instructor and have fun.

Table Tennis

As you may know, the table tennis classes are growing and people are really enjoying playing and socialising as a result. We have a number of sessions now (see below). We encourage all to come and play, no matter what level. The main factor is enjoyment. Table tennis has been shown to improve coordination and motor skills. Research has shown that table tennis can keep Alzheimer’s at bay and improve one’s quality of life. Who would have known!

The usual 10.30 to 12 on a Thursday is for beginners. Then it is 12 to 1.30 pm for intermediate players. The sessions are really popular but we only have 3 tables and we cannot accommodate more than 10 players at any given time. Even then it is a bit of a push. There are three other sessions: one for advanced players on Wednesdays at 11 am until 1 pm, one for intermediate and advanced players on Fridays 10am to 12 noon and an open session on Wednesdays 9.30am to 11am but there is no coaching just table time. Hopefully we can then give everyone some quality playtime and give all a chance to practice new skills.

We also have a table tennis robot. You can hire this for £10 per hour (including table, bats, balls and some help from us!)

You can also play outside of those hours by renting a table when the studio is not otherwise busy with another class. Please consult the timetable to find a slot and ring us on 01422 846022 to book your table. It is £10 a table for the hour. Included in that price is the provision of bats and balls.

HIIT

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been shown to be a very effective way to improve fitness and encourage weight loss in a very short space of time. It consists of various exercise stations where you will perform the exercise in short high energy bursts with a much slower performance in between bursts. There is HIIT and HIIT for beginners which is self explanatory.

Circuits for Beginners
