High Intensity Circuits

Circuits targets aerobic fitness and muscular endurance at the same time. Participants go through a series of exercises often referred to as stations for either a set time or number or reps, with little or no rest between. Some circuits involve exercise equipment while others may use bodyweight exercises or a combination of both.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Beginners can skip stations if required.

HIIT

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been shown to be a very effective way to improve fitness and encourage weight loss in a very short space of time. It consists of various exercise stations where you will perform the exercise in short high energy bursts with a much slower performance in between bursts. There is HIIT and HIIT for beginners which is self explanatory.

Pilates

Pilates emphasizes balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient and graceful movement. The core muscles are the deep internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. This is one of the ways Pilates helps people overcome back pain.

Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Pilates is particularly good for people with poor mobility and back pain.

Boxercise

An exciting non contact fitness class based on boxing, using pads and gloves and some bag work as well as body weight, free weights and other fitness equipment. It is fun, high energy, suitable for all levels (you can only do what you can!). Led by our very own Ness, a capable, experienced and qualified Boxercise instructor. We can guarantee a lot of fun, you won’t be bored and you’ll come out buzzing!

Body Blast

Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is a form of yoga as exercise with a focus on the structural alignment of the physical body through the practice of asanas.

This class runs every Friday morning 9-15 to 10-15.

A quality yoga which can be incorporated into an existing strength/fitness programme in versatile ways. Debbie has been teaching Yoga for 15 years and has developed an impressive following, having taught in many different places, appealing to a wide audience.

The Yoga sessions focus more on core strength than traditional Yoga, yet also work on your flexibility and breathing.

Dance Fitness

Dance Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. While much of the music is Latin American inspired, classes also contain everything from jazz to African beats to country to hip-hop and pop.

Suitable for all ages and abilities. No prior dance experience required, just follow the instructor and have fun.

Jazz

The Jazz class is modern dance/Jazz dance for young people between 8 and 18 years old. Helen who is an experienced dance teacher takes the class, she is also the ballet teacher and Waterside Gym is a recognised ballet centre for the area.

Our jazz dance classes are a fun and social class for beginners to professionals. You will learn posture coordination, turns steps and basic steps. Our class will teach you to gain confidence and lose all inhibitions holding you back.

Table Tennis

As you may know, the table tennis classes are growing and people are really enjoying playing and socialising as a result. We have a number of sessions now (see below). We encourage all to come and play, no matter what level. The main factor is enjoyment. Table tennis has been shown to improve coordination and motor skills. Research has shown that table tennis can keep Alzheimer’s at bay and improve one’s quality of life. Who would have known!

Gentle Exercise

Gentle Exercise is a strength and flexibility class designed specifically for the over 50s and is suitable for all levels of fitness. The class involves simple movements, low impact aerobics and light hand weight.  You need to be fit enough to manage a set of stairs as the class takes place in the studio upstairs. As much a social event as an exercise class. Unwind with a free cuppa and a friendly chat at the end of the class.
